Site Assessment and Investigation

Assessment photo

OTG EnviroEngineering Solutions, Inc. conducts comprehensive and effective assessments and investigation of environmental conditions and potential liabilities of residential, commercial, and industrial sites. Investigations are completed with a thorough understanding of data required for risk assessments, risk management, and remedial design. Our site assessment and investigation services include the following:

  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
  • Site Investigations (Phase II ESAs and Remedial Investigations)
  • Subsurface Contaminant Fate and Transport Modeling
  • Risk Assessments

Our staff of engineers and scientists can design effective site investigation programs to determine the extent and concentration of contaminants in soil and groundwater. Investigation programs can include the following:

  • Statistically designed sampling programs
  • Direct-push probing for subsurface soil and groundwater sampling
  • Installation of groundwater monitoring wells to assess groundwater quality
  • Installation of vapor monitoring probes for landfill gas monitoring and controls
  • Soil gas sampling for human exposure risk assessment

Remediation and Site Closure

The firm specializes in-situ technologies for remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons and chlorinated organic compounds. Our staff has extensive experience in following in-situ remediation technologies:

  • In-situ bioremediation, both aerobic and anaerobic
  • In-situ chemical oxidation
  • Dual-phase extraction
  • Air sparging and bioventing

We have many successful cases of aerobic bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs), and chlorinated semi-volatile organic compounds (CSVOCs); and anaerobic bioremediation of highly chlorinated VOCs. We understand the advantages and limitations of specific remedial technologies and we consider the cost of installing and maintaining those technologies. Our project experience shows our ability to implement innovative ideas to achieve cleanup goals. Our staff has provided technical expertise to other major consulting firms on various in-situ bioremediation and chemical oxidation projects. The remediation services we provide include the following:

  • Analysis of investigation data
  • Analysis of remedial alternatives
  • Engineering evaluation and cost analysis (EE/CA), and feasibility studies (FS)
  • Corrective action plan (CAP) or remedial action plan (RAP)
  • Process engineering
  • Construction and project management
  • Operations and maintenance
  • Monitoring and reporting
  • Risk-based corrective actions
  • Site closure, institutional controls
  • Regulatory assistances

Sustainable Revitalization of Brownfield Sites

OTG EnviroEngineering Solutions, Inc. has worked extensively with private property owners, developers, and redevelopment agencies throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for brownfields redevelopment. Our services include the following:

  • Redevelopment planning
  • Risk assessments and mitigations
  • Engineering controls
  • Construction monitoring
  • Post-development monitoring and risk management
  • Regulatory support

Highlights of our successful cases are:

  • We assisted an East Bay city redevelopment agency in a city street right-of-way extension. Tasks included investigation and remediation of a former auto service station and abandoned rail spurs, demolition, construction monitoring during street construction, and post-construction monitoring.
  • We provided vital support to a non-profit housing consortium for the development of a five-unit apartment building on providing independent living for individuals with developmental disabilities. Our involvement included the initial site assessment, soil gas survey, removal of soils with elevated heavy metal concentrations, deed restriction, and regulatory support throughout the redevelopment process.
  • We are currently assisting the property owner and city planning department for the redevelopment of a 22-acre former chemical manufacturing site. This site is located near a proposed new rail station in the East Bay.
